La Crosse's Monsoor maintains lead in FLW bass tourney

STODDARD, WI - One more day! One more day!
"I just hope I get one more big day," said La Crosse's Tom Monsoor after holding onto his lead in the FLW Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit Super Tournament on the Mississippi River in Stoddard, WI, on Friday.
Despite catching his lightest weight of the four-day event - 13 pounds, 5 ounces - Monsoor's total weight is an even 42 pounds compared to Zack Birge of Blanchard, OK, with 40-15.
However, Monsoor is concerned even more about third-place angler David Walker, from Sevierville, TN. Walker managed a hefty 15-1 haul for a 40-8 three-day total of Friday.
"He's the one to watch," Monsoor said of Walker. "He's fishing brush piles where current comes around."
The ever steady Monsoor relies on his Mississippi River savvy to stay within his comfort zone. Fishing the Black River in Pool 8, he reeled in four largemouth bass and one smallmouth on Friday.
"One was a little over 3 pounds, " he said. "I also tried poppers, buzz baits and all kinds of other stuff and never got bit."
If he catches 14 pounds on Saturday, Monsoor feels he has a good chance of winning his second career FLW tournament.
"Yeah, if I"m lucky enough to get 14 pounds, I've got a chance," he said, adding that there is no secret where the final 10 fishermen in the 200-angler field are fishing on Saturday.
"Everyone left knows where they are going," he said with a big laugh.
Monsoor, in his 17th year on the FLW Tour with $970,027 in career earnings, is a good bet to eclipse the $1 million mark with a strong finish.
