La Crosse's Monsoor in 7th place in FLW bass tourney

STODDARD, WI - La Crosse's Tom Monsoor is in seventh place after Wednesday's opening round of the FLW Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit Super Tournament on the Mississippi River in Stoddard, WI.
Monsoor, currently in 31st place in the 2020 standings with 579 points and $38,500, caught a five-fish limit weighing 14 pounds, 3 ounces. However, he is only 17 ounces from being in the lead.
Scott Wiley, from Bay Minnette, AL, is in first place with 15-3.
Monsoor, in his 17th year on the FLW Tour with $970,027 in career earnings, is only 5 ounces out of third place in the extremely tight race for this week's title.
"I'm hanging in there," he said after his round. "What can you say? I'll take it."
Monsoor said it was a relatively tough day for him with just a few big bites. He caught seven fish with four just over 3 pounds and one a little more than 2 pounds.
The event is being held in Stoddard, WI, in Vernon County because La Crosse County health officials won't allow the tournament in La Crosse County due to COVID-19 concerns.
Tournament pros are limited to Pools 7-8-9 on the Mississippi River. Monsoor said he caught three fish from Pool 7 and four from Pool 8, landing his largest bass on a white swim jig.
"Then, just before I had to quit, I hooked a 4-pounder at least. It came out of the water and I could really see the big mouth on it," he said.
