5 local golfers fail in U.S. Open qualifying

WISCONSIN DELLS, WI - Five La Crosse area golfers failed in their qualifying attempts for the 2022 U.S. Open Championship scheduled June 16-19, at The Country Club in Brookline, MA.
A pair of La Crosse County Amateur Golf Championships winners - Joe Weber of West Salem and Keegan Drugan from Holmen - failed to qualify. Weber tied for 10th with an even-par 72, while Drugan managed shared 26th with 75 in the Wisconsin State Golf Association U.S. Open local qualifying at Wild Rock Golf Club in Wisconsin Dells, WI, on Wednesday.
Sparta’s Austin Erickson tied for 64th place with 82, Onalaska’s James DeBoer shared 66th with 83, while Erickson’s father, Scott, also from Sparta, finished 68th with 84.
Bennett Cotten of Winnetka, IL, Ty Kretz of Marinette, WI, and Griffin Barela from Lakewood, CO, each shot 3-under par 69 to earn three of the five qualifying spots. Cameron Huss of Kenosha, WI, and Hunter Eichhorn of Carney, MI, grabbed the other two qualifying spots with 70 each.
The two alternates are Joaquin Diaz from Milwaukee, WI, with 70 and  Mick Smith of Australia with 71.
