32nd annual La Crosse County Amateur Golf Championships set

Dates are set for the 2022 La Crosse County Amateur Golf Championships as presented by Pepsi-Cola of La Crosse.
For the first time since it began 31 years ago, the Men’s County Amateur was postponed three weeks in 2021 due to unplayable course conditions resulting from more than 5 inches of rain and heavy flooding on Aug. 7-8. The 36-hole tournament was quickly rescheduled to Aug. 28-29.
“We were closed for four days,” said Dave Cornelius, longtime PGA professional and general manager at The Golf Club at Cedar Creek in Onalaska, one of the tournament courses. “We pumped more than 15 million gallons of water off the course and that’s conservative.”
Drugan’s Castle Mound Country Club in Holmen, the other tournament site, also suffered major flooding.
The three-week delay caused changes in the original 96-player field, with some disappointing player withdrawals but also some bright additions. Joe Weber eventually collected his third Championship Flight title.
“We were forced to make some changes in 2020 because of the pandemic. And then this year, although the Seniors and Women’s County Amateurs went off without a hitch one week earlier, we had to postpone the Men’s tourney because of the heavy rainfall and major damage to the courses,” said Bob Lamb, longtime tournament director. “Hopefully, we will have a more normal 2022 County Amateur.”
The 36-hole Men’s County Amateur will utilize Cedar Creek and Castle Mound both days in 2022.
Championship and First Flight golfers will open at Cedar Creek on Saturday, Aug. 6, while Second, Third and Fourth Flight players will be at Castle Mound.
Championship and First Flights will finish at Castle Mound on Sunday, Aug. 7, with Second, Third and Fourth Flight players finishing at Cedar Creek.
Tee times begin at 7:30 a.m. both days at Cedar Creek and 8 a.m. both days at Castle Mound, to allow players at Cedar Creek sufficient time to attend the annual awards ceremony at Castle Mound after the final round.
